PUBLIC COMMENT: City's Updated EO Plan

by eWire Info

Sturgis electric customers are invited to provide comments on the City of Sturgis Electric Department's updated Energy Optimization Plan now through September 30th. The updated plan provides for changes to the City's current Energy Optimization plan filed in 2009. The plan will be presented to the City Commission at their meeting on September 14th, with the opportunity for public comment.

The establishment of an energy optimization plan is required by the state of Michigan for all electric utilities as part of Public Act 295 of 2008. It requires utilities to reduce the amount of electric usage by customers a certain percentage each year, achieved through an incentive program open to residential and business customers. For example, one component of this program is giving away free compact florescent light bulbs to utility customers.

The City of Sturgis filed an updated energy optimization plan with the Michigan Public Service Commission on August 31, 2011 pending Commission approval and public comment on plan changes. Comments will be forwarded to the Michigan Public Service Commission by September 30, 2011. The plan can be reviewed at the Clerk's Office, 130 North Nottawa Street, Sturgis, MI, 39091 or by visiting the link above.
