At the August 8th City Commission meeting, Commissioners will be reviewing a ten year plan to replace the city's brick streets. The City of Sturgis currently has three streets that remain brick; S. Nottawa from Chicago Road to Oaklawn Cemetery, Pleasant Avenue, and W. Main Street from N. Nottawa to Market Street. The proposed plan would see the City tackle replacement projects every other year starting in 2013 and running until 2023. The timing of the plan and the amount of repairs completed during the ten years would depend heavily upon availability of funding, particularly the successful application for grants. The plan calls for work on S. Nottawa to start at Chicago Road in 2013 and for the street to be replaced in segments, ending at Oaklawn Cemetery in 2019. One half of Pleasant Avenue would be completed in 2021 and the remainder of Pleasant and all of W. Main Street would be completed in 2023. A map showing the phases of the plan is available to view Share and Comment
