Roadwork to Start on Broadus and Lafayette Tuesday

The City of Sturgis was awarded a 2012 MDOT Economic Development Fund Category F grant. With grant funds Sturgis will be improving W. Lafayette between N. Centerville Road and Broadus Street and Broadus Street from W. Lafayette to Dresser Drive.

Milbocker and Sons, Inc. of Allegan was awarded the contract and is anticipating the beginning of construction on Broadus starting Tuesday May 29, 2012. W. Lafayette will be reconstructed once curb and gutter and base paving is complete on Broadus. The project is expected to take eight weeks to complete. Please use alternate routes where possible and expect traffic delays.

Street Construction Starting May 21st

As part of street repair work, starting Monday contractors will be milling sections of N. Centerville Road. N. Centerville will be open during the construction. In addition, work will begin on and around the McKee Street railroad crossing. The crossing will be closed from Monday through at least the first week in June for repairs to the road and the crossing itself. As always, construction timeframes are dependent on contractor progress and weather conditions.

Sturgis 2022: What do you want Sturgis to be?

The City of Sturgis has started the Sturgis 2022 initiative with the focus of determining the direction for the community over the next ten years. A website (sturgismi.gov/sturgis2022) and Facebook page (facebook.com/sturgis2022) have been made to provide more information and help solicit citizen feedback.

To help start discussion, the City Commission has developed seven focus areas for the community to consider and provide feedback on. The focus areas look at potential goals for Sturgis to reach over the next decade. They include Great Streets; Business Generator; Charming Community; Commercial Enhancement; Strong Families; Highly-Skilled Workforce; and Retiree Friendly.
