S. Nottawa St. Reconstruction Begins April 7th

by eWire Notice

Street reconstruction on South Nottawa Street between US-12/Chicago Road and Congress will begin on Monday, April 7th. The impacted section of South Nottawa Street will be closed to thru traffic, with traffic detoured to South Maple Street. Homes and businesses in the impacted area, including City parking lots, will be accessible through the majority of the project.

In addition to the South Maple Detour, several accommodations are being made for traffic in the project area. Starting Monday, Pleasant Street will be opened for two-way traffic and parking will be allowed on the west side of the street in the 100 block of South Monroe Street. There will be no parking in the construction area of South Nottawa Street or on Pleasant Street during the project. A detour map is available on the City's website, www.sturgismi.gov, and Facebook page, facebook.com/sturgismi.
The City received a grant from the MDOT Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) for the project. The grant amount is just over $470,000; the total project cost is around $770,000, making the City's share $300,000.

Work on South Nottawa will include removal of current road surface materials; installation of new water main and storm sewer; curb, gutter, sidewalk and driveway approach work; concrete base work, placement of new brick pavers and clean up. The project is expected to be completed in late July, pending weather.

The City will continue to provide project updates via the eWire and City Facebook page as well as local media.
