Mayor Resigns; Applications Sought for Replacement

by eWire Info

At the City Commission meeting on Wednesday, Febraury 23rd the Commission accepted with regret the resignation of Mayor John Carmichael, who submitted a letter of resignation to the City Commission. In his letter, he wrote that the reason for the resignation was because "my work responsibilities will cause me to be absent from a substantial number of city commission meetings from now until the end of my term in November."

The resignation of Mayor Carmichael leaves open both the position of Mayor and that of 1st Precinct Commissioner for the unexpired term ending in November of 2011. The Commission will consider appointment of a new Mayor at the March 9th City Commission meeting. The City Commission has issued a notice for applications to fill the vacant 1st Precinct Commissioner seat; applications are due to City Hall by March 17th at noon and interviews for the position are scheduled to take place on Wednesday evening, March 23, 2011. The appointment and swearing in of the 1st Precinct Commissioner will then take place at the regular City Commission meeting at 7:30 p.m. that evening.
