The City of Sturgis Department of Public Services (DPS) will begin fall leaf pickup on Monday October 29th. Crews will follow the same route as they do with brush pick up, starting north of Chicago Rd. and west of N. Nottawa St. working their way across the north side of town and then through the south side. Leaf pick up will resume each day where crews left off the day before. Leaf pick up will continue following this schedule through the end of November, as weather permits. Under the City's current composting system, it is preferred that you do not put leaves in plastic bags. If you choose to put leaves in bags, please cohntact the DPS office at 651-2879 between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday so special arrangements can be made for pick up. Bagged leaves may be taken to the compost site during scheduled hours; however, you must dump the leaves from the bags. The last day the compost site will be open to the public for this season is Monday, November 19th, unless the ground is covered with snow before then. The City of Sturgis encourages you to use the compost site for disposal of your leaves, grass clippings and brush. As a reminder, starting November 1st, fall compost site hours will be Monday and Thursday from 12:00 noon to 6:00 p.m. Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. If you have any questions or comments on the leaf pick up, please contact the DPS office at 651-2879 Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
