Smokey Robinson to headline 11th Annual Concert |
by Christina Schappacher
Motown legend Smokey Robinson will be headlining the 11th Annual Rosemary Clooney Concert on Saturday, September 26th in downtown Maysville, The Lundergran Group has announced.
Although Lundergans have been in negotiations with Robinson's management team for some time, announcement of his appearance was delayed by the untimely death of Michael Jackson.
"We were close to finalizing the arrangements. Then, the tragic death of Michael Jackson happened, and as most know, Smokey was very close with the family. Therefore, we wanted to be respectful of the space that he needed," said Jerry Lundergan, president and CEO.
Special tribute was made to Robinson at the 22nd Annual ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards on July 14, when he was recognized for his contribution as a songwriter and artist.
Robinson scored 37 Top 40 hits for Motown Records, including Tears of a Clown, You've Really Got a Hold on Me, Ooo Baby Baby and I Second that Emotion.
"You know each year [Rosemary Clooney Concert] gets bigger and better, and after seeing Smokey's show -- he is going to rock Maysville, " said Lundergan.
