(Troy – June 17, 2010) Mayor Harry Tutunjian announced today the city will waive pool fees for city kids ages
12 and under. The pools in Knickerbacker Park and South Troy are slated to open July 6th.

“From the kids programs at Frear Park to the city pools, there's no shortage of affordable fun and public
recreation opportunities,” said Mayor Tutunjian. “The opening of our city pools, along with all of the city's
summer programs for kids, gives them something constructive to do and a reason to stay off the streets and I
want to ensure that there are no barriers to kids getting a break from the summer sun.”
The fee of $1 for a day pass and $10 for a season pass for kids 13 and older will remain and children must be
accompanied by responsible guardian.

Tutunjian noted the city's Department of Parks and Recreation sponsors free summer camps open to boys and
girls ages 8 to 13. The six week summer camps – covering the sports of basketball, football, and soccer – begin
July 6th and run through August 13th at Frear Park's ice rink. Registration will be held on the following dates:
June 29th, June 30th and July 1st from 8 AM-Noon and 4 PM-6 PM at the Frear Park ice rink.

Tutunjian noted the pools and camps are some ways for city kids to take part in an outdoor activity. New this
year is a program called “Hook a Kid on Golf” that aims to bring the game of golf to city youth that might not
otherwise have the means or ability to participate. The nationally-recognized and award winning program is
being hosted for the first time this year at Frear Park Golf Course.

Scholarships are available for kids who qualify or interested supporters can sponsor a child.
For more information on the city's summer camps or how to register your child for Troy's Hook A Kid On Golf
please call the Department of Parks and Recreation at 279-7162. Brochures are available to download for a list
of recreational youth athletic organizations on the city's website at www.troyny.gov and “Hook a Kid on Golf”
at on www.capitalareagolf.com or can be picked up in Troy City Hall.
