ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Performs manual labor work under various weather conditions to install, repair and maintain irrigation systems and components located throughout the City. Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, programs and schedules sprinklers, controllers, lines, wires, wells, drinking fountains, pumps, etc. Utilizes small hand and power tools, PVC cutters and equipment trenchers to perform assigned duties. Conducts routine inspections of irrigation systems to verify proper scheduling and to ensure the system is operating efficiently and within the needs of the landscape. Operates a City vehicle to travel to various locations throughout the City to perform assigned duties. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Some knowledge of irrigation systems and components. Ability to install, maintain, program and schedule irrigation systems and components. Skill in the use of small hand and power tools, PVC cutters and equipment trenchers. Ability to read and comprehend blue prints and diagrams. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Physical strength and agility sufficient to perform manual labor work under varying weather conditions. MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. One year experience in the irrigation trade, as well as experience in the use of related installation and repair equipment. An equivalent combination of education and experience that is determined to be directly related to the foregoing specific requirements may be substituted.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid Florida Class E drivers’ license and a good driving record as determined by the City of Winter Haven. Absence of non-prescribed controlled substances in the applicant’s system as verified by a laboratory approved by the City of Winter Haven. NOTE: A City of Winter Haven Application Must be Completed and Submitted to Human Resources.
