ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Safely operates a front end loading refuse truck with hydraulic lift to collect garbage and other refuse from commercial customers. Transports loads to designated disposal areas. Washes, cleans and performs routine maintenance, including checking fluid levels, tire pressure, filters, belts, etc. on assigned equipment on a daily basis. Completes and maintains daily written records and logs on mileage, fuel consumption and necessary repairs to vehicle and equipment. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Knowledge and skill in the operation of a front end loading refuse truck under adverse road and weather conditions. Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules and regulations. Ability to maneuver large vehicles through heavy traffic and narrow openings. Ability to complete and maintain written records and logs. Ability to withstand long periods of sitting.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: One year experience in driving large, heavy trucks and experience in Solid Waste operations preferred. An equivalent combination of training and experience determined to be directly related to the foregoing specific requirements may be substituted.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid Florida Class B drivers’ license with air-brake endorsement and a good driving record as determined by the City of Winter Haven. Must be able to work early morning hours. Saturdays may be a part of the weekly work schedule. Absence of non-prescribed controlled substances in the applicant’s system as verified by a laboratory approved by the City of Winter Haven.
