ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Performs highly responsible accounting work utilizing independent judgment to resolve problems in the municipal and financial systems. Performs work in accordance with established accounting principles and procedures. Examines, analyzes and audits accounting records to detect discrepancies, verify accuracy, and to recommend system modifications and solutions as necessary. Records accounting entries in written or computerized form. Regularly performs account and fund analysis and reconciliations. Readies payroll documents, i.e. personnel action forms, time sheets, code activity reports, etc. for input into the computer system; enters data into the computer; prepares payroll, calculates taxes and prepares tax report; compiles data, prepares and maintains all related reports as required. Assists in conducting the annual City audit and preparing the annual City budget; researches records, compiles data, analyzes and formulates pertinent information. Operates a calculator and computer to perform assigned duties. May be required to plan, organize, supervise and train assigned personnel. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Knowledge of accounting principles and procedures. Knowledge of office machines, methods, and procedures. Knowledge of the principles of finance administration including budgeting and reporting. Ability to prepare complete and accurate accounting reports and statements. Ability to participate technically in the development of and installation of accounting systems. Ability to perform complex, detailed work involving written and numeric data. Ability to make calculations rapidly and accurately. Ability to operate data entry equipment.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a degree in Accounting. One (1) year of accounting experience in the general or public accounting area. An equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be directly related to the foregoing specific requirements may be substituted.
