On Monday, June 18, at 7pm at the Rye Free Reading room, RYC will offer a presentation and panel discussion to help graduating seniors and their parents navigate the upcoming social and emotional transition to life in college. The evening will feature experts from The JED Foundation and SUNY Purchase, in addition to two 2017 high school graduates/returning college freshmen and their parents. This event is a new Rye Youth Council (RYC) initiative in partnership with The JED Foundation (www.jedfoundation.org ), a national nonprofit that exists to protect emotional health and prevent suicide for our nation’s teens and young adults. JED Foundation partners with high schools and colleges to strengthen their mental health, substance abuse and suicide prevention programming and systems, and they equip teens and young adults with the skills and support to grow into healthy, thriving adults. JED provides its services to more than 170 colleges nationwide, include Harvard, Princeton, Cornell, Notre Dame, Northwestern, MIT, NYU, Columbia, several SUNYS and many more. Their high school program just launched this past year, and we are incredibly lucky to have their CEO, John MacPhee, present and lead a panel discussion for the RYC College Transition program. Topics will include: -Essential summer checklist for a positive transition -Managing changing relationships with family and friends - Understanding privacy laws for students 18+; how to gain access to
