The ‘Queen of Cyberporn' and Her Town's Industry of Child Abuse

Along the narrow roads leading into the Philippine village of Ibabao, billboards highlight traditional crafts such as baking cassava cakes, rope making, and sea-shell jewelry. There's no mention of a less salubrious trade that has swept the area in recent years: child porn.

The area has developed a reputation as a global center of the sexual exploitation of children largely due to Eileen Ontong, authorities say. For at least seven years, Ontong -- dubbed “the Queen of Cyberporn” by local media -- abused children on demand in front of a webcam for cash delivered via international wire transfer services, according to Philippine and U.S. police.

Investigators say as many as 35 children, some as young as five, passed through the door of Ontong's concrete and plywood home, adorned with a crucifix and a picture of Jesus, and into a makeshift cyber-den. There, they were molested, ... [more]

Indonesian maid says tortured with vacuum cleaner tube in Hong Kong abuse case

HONG KONG (Reuters) - An Indonesian domestic helper told a Hong Kong court on Monday that she had been tortured by her employer, with a vacuum cleaner tube placed in her mouth and twisted to cause lacerations, public broadcaster RTHK said.

The landmark trial, featuring pictures of Erwiana Sulistyaningsih's bruised body, has sparked international outrage at the treatment of maids in the Asian financial center.

Former Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono denounced her treatment as torture.

Sulistyaningsih's employer, Law Wan-tung, a former beautician, faces 20 charges, including inflicting grievous bodily harm, assault, and criminal intimidation.

The public broadcaster said Law appeared calm as she pleaded not guilty to all the charges, except one, of failing to take out an insurance policy for an employee.

The domestic helper told the court, thro... [more]

“They drugged me up on heroin and took naked pictures of me and sent it to all his boys,” the girl wrote in a notebook, according to police documents. “Mikey said that if my mom kept looking for me that he has a gun and he's not afraid to use it and he was going to take me to Lawrence where my mom could never find me.”

Feliz, 29, of Lowell, was arrested last week on charges of rape of a child under 16 and human trafficking, and was held without bail after a dangerousness hearing in Lowell District Court Tuesday, acc... [more]
