Police: San Antonio couple charged with human trafficking for prostituting girl online

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police have charged a couple who they say prostituted an underage girl who ran away from home.

Officer Douglas Greene says 25-year-olds Tabitha Donabella and Calup Tsandula have been charged with human trafficking. They were arrested Tuesday night.

Green says the couple bought the girl from another person for $50 after she ran away from home in early October. He says they prostituted the girl online in early November and that a potential client convinced the girl to call police. Her age wasn't released.

Donabella says she thought the girl was 18 and that she was trying to protect her. Tsandula also said they were trying to help the girl.

It wasn't immediately clear if they have attorneys.

Philly attorney accused of sexually assaulting 14-year-old victim of human trafficking

A grand jury has accused a Center City lawyer of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl who had been forced into prostitution. Prosecutors say it's a case of human trafficking.

Assistant Philadelphia District Attorney Meghan Goddard says the grand jury found enough probable cause to recommend 56-year-old lawyer Brian Meehan be charged with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and statutory sexual assault of the girl on several occasions.

"This arrest shows the underground world of human trafficking is fueled by predators from all walks of life," Goddard said.

District Attorney Seth Williams says testimony by the girl included specific details about the attorney's office and his life to verify her allegations.

"She even detailed this defendant's wife made Irish potatoes that the defendant tried to give her some," he said.

Williams says M... [more]

Pimp gets life prison sentence for human trafficking convictions in Athens

A Clarke County Superior Court judge on Wednesday handed a life prison sentence to a pimp convicted of human trafficking in Athens.

Following a trial this month, a jury found 32-year-old Archie Richard Byrd III guilty of six counts of trafficking persons for sexual servitude. Three of the counts on which Byrd was convicted were for using violence and other means to coerce an underage teen to work for him as a prostitute.

Byrd gained notoriety in June 2012 when he was featured on TV's “America's Most Wanted,” where his escape from authorities two months earlier during a sting operation at a hotel near downtown Athens was re-enacted. He remained at large for nearly two years, even returning for a while to his home state of California, where he continued his pimping activities.

Upon returning to Georgia, an officer in DeKalb County caught Byrd jaywalking in Jan... [more]

Man charged with human trafficking of 14-year-old girl

Austin police have charged a man with human trafficking after he admitted to prostituting a 14-year-old girl, according to an arrest affidavit.

Police arrested 22-year-old Maurice Allen Scott after an undercover police officer with Austin's Human Trafficking Unit responded to an advertisement on an unspecified website frequently used to solicit prostitutes, the affidavit said.

The officer arranged a Thursday meeting with the 14-year-old girl at a hotel, where she arrived in a Gold Toyota 4DR registered to Scott, the affidavit said.

The girl was willing to talk to the officer, who referred to Scott as “hustler” and explained that she texted him “finish” when she was ready to be picked up, the affidavit said. She told the officer that Scott “abducted” her, took photos of her in the nude and made all of her appointments, the affidavit said.

When Scott returned to pick her up, police... [more]
