ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Safely and efficiently operates a Trashmaster equipped with hydraulic lift/claw and performs manual labor work to collect residential and commercial trash, junk and building debris. Transports loads of materials collected to designated disposal areas. Prepares and maintains accurate records and logs of amounts of materials collected at specific addresses and documents daily activities performed. On a daily basis, washes, cleans and performs routine maintenance, including checking fluid levels, tire pressure, filters, belts, etc. on assigned equipment. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Knowledge and skill in the safe and efficient operation of a Trashmaster, under adverse road and weather conditions. Knowledge and skill in operating hydraulic levels and Trashmaster boom. Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules and regulations and the ability to maneuver large vehicles through heavy traffic. Must have the ability to interpret and follow road maps and be capable of learning various routes and collection methods in the solid waste collection system. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to prepare and maintain written records and logs. Physical strength and agility sufficient to perform assigned duties under varying weather conditions.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: One year experience in driving large, heavy trucks preferred. Some experience in solid waste collection operations preferred. An equivalent combination of training and experience determined to be directly related to the foregoing specific requirements may be substituted.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must have a valid Florida Class B drivers’ license with air-brake endorsement and a good driving record as determined by the City of Winter Haven. Absence of non-prescribed control substances in the applicant’s system as verified through a screening process administered by a laboratory approved by the City of Winter Haven.
