The Winter Haven City Commission encourages community and business leaders to express support for ICON Aircraft locating its new facility in Winter Haven. ICON recently announced its short list of states being considered for location of its future headquarters. Florida was on that list and Winter Haven is a top candidate because of its many lakes and yearround warm climate, making it well suited for runway and water-based flight training of ICON customers. This development could ultimately bring hundreds of new jobs to Winter Haven and Polk County. Three seats on the Winter Haven City Commission will be decided on September 6, 2011. Six candidates, two for each seat, have filed to campaign for Seat Nos. 1, 2 and 3.
