2542 17th Street, Sarasota, FL 34234 Learn how to walk adoptable Cat Depot cats on a leash and harness to provide the cats with much needed physical and mental stimulation. If you are interested in attending, you must register online http://www.catdepot.org/education/cat-socialization.aspx or email Cody at codyc@catdepot.org. In a shelter environment, we try to provide as much stimulation for the cats and kittens as possible to reduce stress and boredom. Teaching cats and kittens to walk on a leash not only provides stimulation, it improves social skills and increases their ability to adapt to new environments. It can also bring attention to some cats who normally do not stand out in a large group, increasing their chances of getting adopted.

11/13/2014 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM (Non-Profit Public Events) Films for a Future: Gasland II
Under the banner of "the best documentaries you probably haven't seen yet," we regularly screen films on a wide variety of topics related to Transition. Each film is typically followed by a speaker, group discussion, or other activity that connects the film's topic back to what we can do about it locally. In this explosive follow-up to his Oscar-nominated film Gasland, filmmaker Josh Fox uses his trademark dark humor to take a deeper, broader look at the dangers of hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, the controversial method of extracting natural gas and oil, now occurring on a global level. Gasland Part II shows how the stakes have been raised on all sides in one of the most important environmental issues facing our nation today. The film argues that the gas industry's portrayal of natural gas as a clean and safe alternative to oil is a myth and that fracked wells inevitably leak over time, contaminating water and air, hurting families, and endangering the earth's climate with the potent greenhouse gas, methane. In addition the film looks at how the powerful oil and gas industries are in Fox's words "contaminating our democracy." Free admission. For more information, please email info@transitionsrq.org or call (941) 408-3374. Upcoming screeings in the Films for a Future 2014-2015 season include: Passive House Revolution on Dec 11,
