8/9/2014 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM (Non-Profit Public Events) Cat Depot Leash Walking Class
2542 17th Street, Sarasota, FL 34234 Learn how to walk adoptable Cat Depot cats on a leash and harness to provide the cats with much needed physical and mental stimulation. If you are interested in attending, you must register online http://www.catdepot.org/education/cat-socialization.aspx or email Cody at codyc@catdepot.org. In a shelter environment, we try to provide as much stimulation for the cats and kittens as possible to reduce stress and boredom. Teaching cats and kittens to walk on a leash not only provides stimulation, it improves social skills and increases their ability to adapt to new environments. It can also bring attention to some cats who normally do not stand out in a large group, increasing their chances of getting adopted.

8/23/2014 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM (Events) Book Signing
In our ongoing Saturday series of local author book signings, author Janet Olshewsky will be signing her book, The Snake Fence, a tale of a Quaker farm boy caught up in the adventures and politics of Colonial Pennsylvania during the French and Indian Wars, at our store. The book's main character, Noble Butler, struggles to find his own identity and establish his own principles amid the competing problems of natives, settlers, and the pacifist Quaker founders of Pennsylvania. Written for middle school readers, this story is based on careful historical research with sympathetic treatments of all sides in the unfolding struggles. A. Parker's Books is located at 1488 Main Street, close to the intersection of Main Street and Lemon Avenue, in Downtown Sarasota. The Book Signing will take place from 10am to 2pm. We look forward to seeing you there!

8/25/2014 5:30 PM Community Workshop - Application 14-CW-15
As required by the City of Sarasota, a community meeting is being held to discuss the use of the Golden Gate Point alternative (development) standards for a proposed 12 unit, four-story residential townhome project known as Allure, located at 111, 153, and 653 Golden Gate Point and zoned RMF-5. The intent of the alternative standards of Section VI-305 of the Zoning Code is to provide an option for new development to be designed and sited in a manner that will encourage human activity on the street. Included among the standards is an allowance for lesser building setbacks, greater building coverage, and a 50’ building height limit with a maximum of four stories. The proposed development consists of two (2) four-story, two unit buildings and two (2) four-story, four unit buildings, with two-car to three-car garages, per unit. A sidewalk will be constructed along the rear (southern) property line. The applicant is proposing to utilize the alternative standards to provide for a lower scale building with greater building coverage. The maximum building height allowed in the RMF-5 zone district on Golden Gate Point is 90’. Notice and Map

8/28/2014 5:30 PM Community Workshop - Application 14-CW-16
As required by the City of Sarasota, a community meeting is being held to discuss a proposal by Ringling College of Art and Design (RCAD) to vacate Old Bradenton Road, between Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way and US 41. This right-of-way is roughly 60’ wide and bisects the southern portion of the RCAD campus. The college proposes to construct a physical barrier at the southern end of Old Bradenton Road, where it intersects with US 41. The barrier would mean traffic would no longer be able to access Old Bradenton Road from US 41, but would instead have to access the non-vacated segment of this road via Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way. The college owns all of the property along both sides of the subject right-of-way, except for three privately-owned residential parcels located on the east side of the right-of-way, near the southern end. These three property owners are expected to join in, or consent to, the vacation petition. The college intends to leave all existing utility lines and facilities in place, and to grant easements to the City and to various utility companies to accommodate the same. Notice and Map
