How does the Action Line Request process work?
A ticket number is assigned to each new Service Request. Using this ticket number, the submitter can check back on the website at any time to view the current status of the request. Upon submission, Service Requests are automatically routed to the proper City staff for resolution.

Do I need a building permit for a new roof.
A building permit is not needed for shingle replacement. If structural changes are being made or an additional section of roof is being added to the structure a permit would be required.

Do I need a building permit for new windows?
A permit is only required if the size of the windows being installed would require a structural change.

Do I need a building permit for interior residential renovations?
Non-Structural cosmetic changes do not require a permit. However any changes to the plumbing or electrical would require a permit. Items such as changing an electrical outlet or switch would not require a permit. The addition of a new circuit would require a permit. Replacement of plumbing fixtures or existing plumbing would not requie a permit but adding a new line to accomodate a new fixture would require a permit.

Do I need a permit for a deck?
Yes, all decks either new or replacement need to be permitted.

Do I need a permit for a swimming pool.
Yes, all pools, in-ground or above ground need to be permitted.

Do I need building permit for new siding?
No.

Do permits require inspections?
Yes - the required inspections are listed with your permit.

How do I request inspections for a permitted project.
Call the Building Inspector at 724-942-5008 24 hours in advance to request the inspection.

Do I need a permit to change the grade in my yard?
Any change in grade to your property should be discussed prior to that change being made with someone in the Planning Department. In some instances a permit is required. Any changes being made should not adversely affect the adjacent properties.

Do I need a permit for a retaining wall?
A permit is not required, however all retaining walls must be no higher than 6 feet and must be a minimum of 3 feet from the property line. Walls that are designed as a fence or barrier require a permit.

What codes have Peters Township adopted?
Peters Township has adopted the Uniform Construction Code of PA. These codes reference the International Residential Code and the International Building Code.

Where can I get a copy of the building codes?
They are available at the Peters Township Library or in the Building Inspectors office for review or can be purchased from the International Code Council (www.iccsafe.org or 1-800-786-4452)

What hours are construction equipment allowed to work?
Construction equipment is permitted to work between the hours 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM Monday thru Saturday.

What do I need to turn in to apply for a building permit?
You must turn in the following to the Planning Department: the application, 2 copies of the survey, and 2 copies of the plan. If the building permit is for a smaller accessory structure such as a shed, or for a pool, you will turn in a picture of it instead of an actual plan.

Where can I find out what new developments are going on in Peters Township?
There is a new developments list on the Peters Township website at www.peterstownship.com, and this list is updated bi-annually.

Do I need a Business License to open a business in Peters Township?
No

Do I need an occupancy permit for a new business?
Yes - Contact the Building Inspector at 724-942-5008.

How long does it take to get a building permit?
Residential permits take 7 to 10 days after proper documentation is received. Commercail permits up to 30 days.

Where is the Magistrate's Office located?
The Magistrate - District Justice James Ellis - is located at 453 Valley Brook Road, McMurray, PA 15317, in the same area as the McMurray Dairy Bar, in the same building as Pizza Hut.

How do I reach Peters Township Police Department administration offices?
If you have an emergency or need to see a police officer - dial 9-1-1. Peters Township Police Department administration offices can be reached by dialing 724-942-5030 and are located at 200 Municipal Drive, McMurray, PA 15317.

Can the police watch my house while I am on vacation?

Will the garbage company take my large appliance or furniture
Yes. Allied Waste will take the furniture. They request only one large piece per week. Any refrigerators must have the freon removed prior to disposal.
