Makos Swim Team ages 11 to 12 - TEAM AT MAX
The swim team has reached a maximum amount of 120 swimmers. Registration is only available for the 13-18 category since we need swimmers in that age group. Kids can make great friends, be a part of a team and stay in shape! This is a great opportunity for youth to become stronger swimmers, make friends and have FUN! This team is focused on developing youth into team players, each making a contribution towards the goal and success of the whole team. Although competition is an element in any sport, the goal of the Montgomery Makos is self-improvement of each of its members, not on competitive marks and records. Participants must be able to swim 25 meters freestyle, submerge, feel comfortable in deep water and be a current member of the municipal pool. Child must be able to leave parent and test water for Level One Water Exploration. Kids can learn the lifelong skill of swimming! All swim lessons run Monday – Thursday for a 2-week time frame with Fridays as a make-up day in case of cancellation. All lessons are taught by a trained instructor and will be taught with the instructor in the water with the participants with a 1:6 ratio. Lessons are $40 per session for current pool members and $55 per session for non-members. No refunds will be given once the first class begins and there is a $25 cancellation fee at all times. Children must be at least 4 years of age to participate. Parents and siblings are NOT permitted on the pool deck during lessons, so please be sure your child is willing to go with the instructor and classmates. Classes must have a minimum of 4 participants, maximum of 6 participants, to be offered. You may see the class maximum is higher than 6 on our website. We still have 6 as the maximum in each class however; we allow more to register because we can run additional classes at that time if we have 8 or more children registered. Registration is limited to one session per child, no advanced registration for future sessions is allowed so as to be sure the child has progressed to the next level. Make up days for swim team meets (meets are on Thursday evenings, June 27, July 11 and July 18 and the pool closes at 5pm due to meets) and for weather are on Fridays. Triathlon Training for Kids Session 1
Kids love to swim, bike and run, so triathlon is a perfect sport for them. But putting all three together is a little more complicated, physically and mentally. We will prepare your child for the endurance of a kids distance, give them confidence on their bikes, and how to transition safely from one sport to the next. We emphasize having fun and feeling good at the finish, safety, and the rules of the sport. Parents should plan to stay at the last session as we will go over how to support your child before and during the race, what is allowed, and important nutrition tips the week of the race (hydration and what to eat). A handout will be provided each week for review. Designed for kids who have never done a triathlon, or who have done one or two. Program taught by Elyse Jarard, certified triathlon training coach, owner of Montgomery’s Venus For Her. Kids Triathlon Training: 1-2:15pm Wednesdays Session 1: June 12, 19, 26 and July 10 (race on July 13) Minimum 5/Max10 participants. Training includes: Tote bag, 4 weeks of hands-on training, discount on races Focus of the training program is to prepare for endurance, transitions, feeling comfortable in each sport, and practicing with bricks (2 sports in a row). The program is designed to be fun and work towards a goal with a small group Week 1: at the Montgomery Pool Introduce; go over rules of the sport; assess swimming ability and identify improvements (if needed); go over safety strokes and practice; setting up transition zone—what you need, what you don’t need, what to eat before the sessions Week 2: at Pioneer Park (bring bike) Ride on different terrains (hills and flat) on a closed course to practice using gears, brakes, maneuvering, making sure bike is set up correctly; transitioning from bike to run. Week 3: at Montgomery Pool (bring all gear) Put all three sports together, practicing our transitions, and seeing how it feels to do it all together. We will also practice setting up the transition zone Week 4: at Montgomery Pool (parents to stay) Kids will set up their transition zones, and show parents. While kids are swimming, we will preview for the parents what the transition zone will look like, how to help set it up, what to eat before the race and basic rules. Handouts provided. Mobile Application Development Camp
Taught by iDaP Academy, kids 8-17 will use the latest technology and software to create an application or video game for mobile devices (i-Phone, Andriod phones, iPOD Touch, iPAD, Andriod tablets). Participants will be introduced to the rapid prototype development model and have the option of creating an app or game from scratch or use existing templates as inspiration. The choice is theirs. The first part of the program will be to brainstorm a concept, flow chart the application, storyboard screens and then develop the graphics, backgrounds and develop the application in game salad. A detailed agenda for each day is listed below. In addition to creating the game they will create their own video game trailer to promote their application or game. All apps will be published and made available on the iDaP academy website. The video trailers will be posted to the iDaP academy you tube channel and Facebook page. Some video trailers may be "premiered" before the Dive in Movie at the City of Montgomery Pool Luau Party and Dive in Movie on June 21. Classes are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon and will be at Terwilliger Lodge at Dulle Park at 10530 Deerfield Rd. Cost $110. Minimum of 12 needed by June 10. Max 42. Safety Village 2013
Safety Village is a fun-filled, informative week of presentations and hands-on experience for children ages 5-6. During the Monday-Friday, 3-hour sessions, children will receive important, and potentially life-saving instruction from Police Officers, Firefighters and Animal Safety Specialists. Participants will also have opportunities to view and use some of the equipment displayed during the week. This is a free event for Montgomery residents. Registration begins on April 29 for residents and May 6 for non-residents. The fee for non-residents is $25. Due to the popularity of this program, no repeat participants will be accepted. The coordinator is Officer Pat Giblin, DARE Officer for the Montgomery Police Department, assisted by Jennifer Fisher, certified teacher, and Cara Beitman, Teacher Assistant. The volunteers are specially selected Junior High and High School students.
Safety Village will occur rain or shine, and helmets are mandatory for all children. This class does not have a cancellation fee.

Young Rembrandt's Weekly Elementary Drawing

Girls Singing Ensemble ages 9-12
Girls ages 9 - 12 will learn from professional, licensed music teacher Gina Jasinoski who has 15 years experience teaching voice and piano and 3 years experience with vocal ensemble camps and classes. This class is designed to help young girls learn proper singing techniques. Triathlon Training for Kids Session 2
Kids love to swim, bike and run, so triathlon is a perfect sport for them. But putting all three together is a little more complicated, physically and mentally. We will prepare your child for the endurance of a kids distance, give them confidence on their bikes, and how to transition safely from one sport to the next. We emphasize having fun and feeling good at the finish, safety, and the rules of the sport. Parents should plan to stay at the last session as we will go over how to support your child before and during the race, what is allowed, and important nutrition tips the week of the race (hydration and what to eat). A handout will be provided each week for review. Designed for kids who have never done a triathlon, or who have done one or two. Program taught by Elyse Jarard, certified triathlon training coach, owner of Montgomery’s Venus For Her. Kids Triathlon Training: 1-2:15pm Wednesdays Session 1: July 10, 17, 24, 31 (race on August 3) Minimum 5/Max10 participants. Training includes: Tote bag, 4 weeks of hands-on training, discount on races Focus of the training program is to prepare for endurance, transitions, feeling comfortable in each sport, and practicing with bricks (2 sports in a row). The program is designed to be fun and work towards a goal with a small group Week 1: at the Montgomery Pool Introduce; go over rules of the sport; assess swimming ability and identify improvements (if needed); go over safety strokes and practice; setting up transition zone—what you need, what you don’t need, what to eat before the sessions Week 2: at Pioneer Park (bring bike) Ride on different terrains (hills and flat) on a closed course to practice using gears, brakes, maneuvering, making sure bike is set up correctly; transitioning from bike to run. Week 3: at Montgomery Pool (bring all gear) Put all three sports together, practicing our transitions, and seeing how it feels to do it all together. We will also practice setting up the transition zone Week 4: at Montgomery Pool (parents to stay) Kids will set up their transition zones, and show parents. Young Actors Theater Camp ages 5-8
Kids will learn from professional Karen Vanover who has spent the last 25 years acting, directing and teaching theater arts. Got a “drama queen” on your hands? How about that little guy who can’t seem to sit still? This active, creative camp is for you. Dramatic play and basic theatre studies is a great way to channel energy, teach cooperation, and enhance reading comprehension. We’ll have tons of stuff for campers to do. Campers will participate in creative movement, singing, reciting memorized poetry and nursery rhymes, making costumes, and props. Pre-readers will be memorizing a poem or nursery rhyme. Readers will read, analyze, and prepare short scenes. The campers will finish off their week with a demonstration for friends, family and the community at the annual Bastille Day celebration on Saturday. Camp is held at Terwilliger Lodge in Dulle Park.
