Document Request, General - FOIA

Pursuant to the Michigan Freedom of Information Act, the City must make reasonable efforts to disclose documents regarding its operations to the public upon request. The City may charge a reasonable fee relating to research, duplication, and redaction to offset its own costs. While the City is not obligated to create any document or report that does not already exist, reasonable efforts will be made to satisfy all requests.

Please note that requests for police and fire/ems reports require additional information. Document requests for those items are listed under their respective sections.

Every effort is made to keep all fees at or below cost with most FOIA fees being below $25. The City will, however, charge reasonable fees as permissible by law and reserves the right to reduce or waive fees when the action is acting within the best interests of the public.

Fees are dependant on research time, length, and redaction. Should the anticipated research, duplication, or redaction time be excessive, the City has the right to request a partial payment in advance of the work being completed.

The Michigan Freedom of Information Act allows five business days to respond to a request with an additional ten business days permitted as an extension.

Commonly searched documents $5.00
Audio tape duplication $5.00
Video tape duplication $20.00
Diskette listing all registered voters $5.00
Printout of all registered voters $90.00
