It is the intention of the City of Monroe to maintain a clean and safe environment. The purpose of the blight ordinance is to protect, promote and provide for the health, safety, sanitation and general welfare of the citizens of the City of Monroe and to suppress disease and contamination by preventing, eliminating and removing blight and/or blighted conditions within the City of Monroe.
Please help us by reporting any suspected violation of the blight ordinance so that we may initiate corrective action.
Examples of blight include:
- Fences in disrepair
- Poorly maintained front yards
- Recreational equipment in the front yard
- Lack of or weathering of paint
- Dog pens or runs in the front yard
- Broken windows
- Landscaping that interferes with pedestrians and/or motorists
- Tall grasses or weeds (over 8”)
- Fallen leaves in piles (over 7 days)
- Storage of trash in the front or side yard
- Hanging clothes on porches or fences for over 24 hours
- Unstacked firewood
- Deteriorated vertical members
- Out-of-doors storage of unlicensed or inoperable vehicles
- Junk or rubbish in yards
- Poorly maintained buildings
