4/4/2014 8:00 PM (Special event) Menlowe Ballet Presents Transcendence
Menlowe Ballet Presents Transcendence at the Menlo-Atherton Performing Arts Center Menlowe Ballet celebrates its sixth season with TRANSCENDENCE featuring works by Artistic Director Michael Lowe and Guest Choreographer Dennis Nahat. Lowe presents a world premiere on this program, as well as a reprisal of an audience favorite. Back this season is Lowe’s popular Tribute, performed to live musical accompaniment. This ballet honors Lowe's participation in two seminal productions of Ravel's Bolero. First in 1974, as an original cast member in Marc Wilde's Bolero, and again in 1995 when Oakland staged Bronislava Nijinska's 1928 version. In Tribute, Lowe references both works, weaving his own choreographic voice, and exploring Ravel's original musical intentions. Contributing significantly the program is choreography by Founding Artistic Director of both Cleveland Ballet and Ballet San Jose, Dennis Nahat. A dance icon, Nahat had an illustrious performing career with Joffrey Ballet and American Ballet Theater, where he danced as a principal. His choreographic credits extend from ballet to Broadway, television and film, where he has created over 104 works. Tickets: www.menloweballet.org or 1-800-595-4849
