Youth Classes
The City of Menlo Park offers a range of enrichment classes for children and teens. Community classes take place in many City facilities including the Onetta Harris Community Center, the Burgess Recreation Center, Burgess Gym, Burgess Park, and other city facilties. Classes include dance, arts and crafts, ceramics, foreign language, martial arts, and much more.

September 3 – December 17, Thursdays
Junior Ballet

For the child who has already had entry level ballet class experience and is ready to begin formal training. Introduction to barre, adagio, petite allegro, pirouette and combinations. Variations from the Nutcracker may be learned and performed at the end of the session in a seasonal performance. NO CLASS 11/26

Tiny Ballerina 1

For the very young child who loves to skip, gallop, tip toe and twirl. Being guided by the instructor to lend order, technique, and structure to such skills, your child will begin to learn about ballet. Plies and positions of the feet are also covered. Imagination—theatre, dance expression and pantomime prepare your child for recitals. Variations from the Nutcracker are explored in storybook fashion. A seasonal performance is usually planned for the last class session. Bring your camera!

Math Games (K-4th Grade)

A fun and educational class for mathematic skills! Students will learn math skills through games, and activities. Classes are organized by subject level, and students will be grouped to their skill level. Class offers practice in computation as well as word problems. This course will cover concepts such as advanced arithmetic, fractions (including decimals, and percentages), graphs, probability, and date reasoning. Through teaching, drills, games, and hands-on materials, students will build a solid foundation for mathematical thinking. Materials fees of $25 will cover books, cultural supplements. In a supportive and cooperative setting, we will act out a variety of different folk and fairy tales. Dress up costumes will be provided. This class is for young children and their parents. Experience together the joy and magic of music, creative movement and stories. Chinese Martial Arts - Xingyiquan

The art of Xingyiquan, or Form-Intention Boxing, is famous throughout China, both for the health and longevity of its practitioners and for its effectiveness in combat. One of the four “internal arts” of Chinese boxing, Xingyi emphasizes breathwork (qigong) and postural training to develop relaxed whole-body power. Students are introduced to Shen Long Xingyiquan (Spirit Dragon Form-Intention Boxing) through a variety of conditioning exercises and training drills, gradually progressing to the Five Elements and Twelve Animals forms. This class is a vigorous workout that balances and strengthens the body, improves coordination and flexibility, and increases mental clarity and relaxation. MOM (or DAD's) RELAX Kids-do-the-work Dog Class

This class is for moms or dads that want their kids to be hands on with their dog. Let me teach your child how to be a strong leader and have a lasting relationship built from love and respect with your family dog. A parent must be present, but feel free to sit in the back of class with your coffee and chat with the other parents. This class will be accepting dogs of all ages. If you believe your dog is aggressive, they must be evaluated before coming to class. Puppies are required to have 2 Dhlpp shots and 1 Bordetella shot to attend class. Dogs over 6 months are required to have 2 Dhlpp shots, their Rabies and their Bordetella to attend class. Proof of shots will be verified at the first class. Kids K9 Camp

Kids get ready for this fun camp for you and your dog! This is a great way to introduce your child and/or dog to training, give them some bonding time, or just to get a few hours of “you” time! The first day of camp will be Doggie P’s & Q’s: an introduction to basic manners, walking nicely on a loose leash, along with some basic obedience commands. Day 2 will be a Doggie Spa Day. Campers will learn how to properly bathe their K-9 friends, clean their ears, teeth, and clip their nails. Kids bring a change of clothes, (just in case) & 2 towels (1 for you & 1 for the dog.) The final day of camp will be: Dogs Strut Your Stuff! Kids bring your costumes & your dogs too! This is a day of races, games, tricks & a chance to show off with your best K-9 friend! Snacks for the kids will be provided as well as treats for the dogs. Please inform Sabrina if your child or dog has any allergies!
