The Pacolet Area Conservancy (PAC) and Walnut Creek Preserve (WCP) invite the public to attend a free program about “Owls – Masters of the Night.” Naturalist and educator, Carlton Burke, will present the program on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Anne Elizabeth Suratt Nature Center at Walnut Creek Preserve.

Books and Bites Sponsored by the Friends of the Mountains Branch Library Born and raised in NC, Michael Rivers, a multi-genre paranormal thriller author, will be speaking on Friday, Oct. 17, 2014 from 6 - 8 pm in the Roosevelt Hall at the Lake Lure Inn. This will be more than just the normal Books and Bites event. This is more like a Halloween gala - ghost tours, 50/50 raffle, open cash bar - more into. to follow. The cost of the event is $30. per person.

Books and Bites Presents A GHOSTLY GALA GATHERING Sponsored by the Friends of the Mountains Branch Library Micheal Rivers, a multi-genre and paranormal thriller author, will be speaking at the Lake Lure Inn - Roosevelt Room beginning at 6 p.m. This ghostly festivity will include dinner for $30 per person, a full service cash bar, 50/50 raffle, and a ghost tour of the Inn by Patrick Bryant, Events Manager. This is a special event - reservations are required, so please call the Mountains Branch Library (828-287-6392) for your tickets. Checks are made out to "Friends of the Mountains Branch Library" and can be mailed to 150 Bills Creek Rd., Lake Lure, NC 28746. Get your friends to join you - reserve a table for eight! Micheal was born and raised in North Carolina. He is a recognized authority as a paranormal investigator with over 30 years experience. His best seller VERLIEGE was voted Supernatural Book of 2012. His first fiction novel was published in 2003 and re-released as THE BLACK WITCH in 2011. Other works include MOONLIGHT ON THE NANTAHALA, THE NORTH CAROLINA SHORES, and APPALACHIA MOUNTAIN FOLKLORE.

This 2-day event takes every year place on the 3rd weekend of October (during the Leaf Season)... October 18-19, 2014. The festival is open to the public from 10 am to 6 pm on Saturday (10/18) and from 10am to 4 pm on Sunday (10/19). Public admission and parking are FREE. This event is presented by Hickory Nut Gorge Outreach and funds raised by the event help to support the Outreach's mission to feed and assist the needy throughout the Hickory Nut Gorge area. This festival celebrates the rich tradition of hand-made, Appalachian arts & crafts and feature over 80 artists & crafters who exhibit and sell their hand-made works. Some demonstrate their artistic talents by creating new works at the event. These festivals are held in the picturesque mountain-lake resort backdrop of Lake Lure... across from the Town beach Great foods, snacks and (non-alcoholic) beverages are offered for sale by vendors in the Food Court and visitors can enjoy "eating out" in the creek-side picnic area adjacent to the Food Court. Free entertainment is also provided throughout the event by talented musicians, singers & dance groups. Children can enjoy fun activities in the Kids Zone.
