10/4/2014 1:00 PM (Parks & Recreation) Doe Run Nature Trail Hike
Join Biologist and Educator Peggy Kelly and Kenton County Parks & Recreation for a hike at Doe Run Lake beginning at 1:00 pm. Peggy has hiked the area since the mid-1980's and is exceptionally familiar with the flora and fauna of the hills surrounding the lake. The hike is medium paced to allow time for you to explore some of the Natural History of one of our most beautiful NKY parks. Bring H2O and sunscreen and wear comfortable shoes.

The hike is for all ages 11 years and up. Plan to be hiking for approximately two hours. The hike is free but group size must be limited to enhance the overall quality of the experience. We will meet in the boat launch area of the parking lot, near the entrance to the Doe Run Nature Trail. Call 525-PLAY to register!

Doe Run Lake is easy to find! The address is 1501 Bullock Pen Rd., Covington, KY 41017. Take the Covington/Independence (Exit 80) off I-275. Go south (away from Covington) on KY 17 (Madison Pike) about 1 mile to Old KY 17 (the first road past Dudley Pike). Turn right onto Old 17 and follow to the end of the road.

Call Kenton County Recreation at (859) 525-PLAY (7529) to see how you can help ~ we are always in need of volunteers and funding sponsors for our programs!

10/4/2014 7:00 PM (Parks & Recreation) Owl Prowl at Lincoln Ridge Park
Ever wonder what predatory birds come out after dark right here in NKY and maybe even in our backyards? Come on out for an Owl Prowl and discover some of the mysteries of owls and other nocturnal animals. We guarantee you will see live owls!

Join KCP&R with Dr. Tom Sproat and Critters in the Classroom for an interactive, after-dark program about owls that make NKY their home from 7 until 9 pm. We'll use Shelterhouse 3. Learn how owls hunt and help maintain a healthy ecosystem. We will also go 'prowling' for owls that may use the park for their hunting grounds. Dress for a short trail hike.

Lincoln Ridge Park is easy to find. The address is 420 Independence Station Rd., Independence. From I-75, take the Florence/Union exit. Go east to the 2nd stop light at Industrial Road. Turn R, go to Turkeyfoot Rd. Turn R, go 1/2 mile to Independence Station Rd. (at the Marathon Food Mart). Turn L, go 2 miles to the park. Follow the main park road to the back. Or, from I-275, take the Turkeyfoot Rd. exit and go south about 6 miles to Independence Station Rd. Turn L and go 2 miles to the park.

For details, call KCP&R at (859) 525-PLAY (7529).
