Annual fishing derby set for Saturday

The Hooked on Fishing Derby is Saturday, May 19 beginning at 9 a.m. For kids ages 4-12 years old, this annual event co-sponsored by Eden Parks & Recreation and the Eden Kiwanis Club is held at the Fireman's Hut Pond (near the Eden Drive-In) on Smith Acres Road.

Registration is at 9. Fishing begins at 9:30 and ends at 11. Worms will be furnished. Kids must be accompanied by an adult and are allowed only one rod per child. No adults will be allowed to fish.

Trophies will be awarded to the winner and runner-up for largest fish and most fish caught in each age group. Kids also have the opportunity to win prizes in a drawing.

Annual Ribfest is Saturday at Freedom Park

Come out with your friends and family Saturday, May 12 for Ribfest at Freedom Park. This annual event features hot-off-the-grill ribs and lots of other delicious festival foods. Kids will enjoy the FREE inflatables and rides. Four live performances are lined up for the day. The Osborne Baptist High School Worship Band will perform from 10 until noon. Carolina Elite Cheerleaders will put on a show at 11 and Radio Flyer takes the stage from noon until 2 followed by The Impacts singing until 4.

Ribfest kicks off at 10 a.m. and lasts until 4. Freedom Park is located at 121 N. Edgewood Road.

Help Keep Eden Beautiful this Saturday

What: Great American Cleanup – an annual nation-wide litter cleanup event of Keep America Beautiful
Local event sponsored by Keep Eden Beautiful

When: Saturday May 5, 2012

Time: 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Where: Meet at Freedom Park (picnic shelter near playground) to get area assignments and supplies.

Who: Individuals, civic groups, church groups, businesses, anyone who is concerned about litter and the appearance of the community.

Breakfast items (biscuits, juice, water) will be provided at the park that morning.

Wear comfortable clothes & closed shoes (no flip-flops or sandals please) and bring rakes & gloves.
