Anyone interested in volunteering during the 2016 Summer Reading Program should attend this orientation. You will learn what will be expected of you during the six week event. This three part program, given by Jim Glenn, looks at odd, unusual, sometimes funny, sometimes sad, frightening or inspiring, eerie or awesome, but always interesting events and the people who made them. Topics covered include a broad range of American people and events from the late 1700s to the mid-1900s---military and political figures, transportation, music and musicians, state boundaries (geography), sports, Broadway, architecture, attempted assassinations, murder and mayhem, a "miraculous" staircase and the mother of all gunfights. No need to attend all three to get the enjoyment of one.

David Palan, a self-described 'cyclevangelist' from Ann Arbor, will be here to share his passion for bicycling in a program that combines photos, history, and discussion about great places to ride bicycles in Southeast Michigan and beyond. David serves as an event promoter, race announcer, and co-host of two cycling related podcasts. Following the discussion, two appropriate books, Best Bike Ride Detroit and Ann Arbor and Dirt Road Washtenaw signed by author Rob Pulcipher will be available for purchase ($20 each).

Top 10 Scams and How to Avoid Them. Scammers prey on targets of opportunity. You are less likely to be a victim of scams if you know what you are up against. Gary Allen is a Northville attorney with more than 30 years experience in protecting his clients from scams. His presentation will review some of the most prevalent scams, how to avoid them and identify some new scams. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and share stories.

APR A & B. Our film is Kung Fu Panda 3. When Po's long-lost panda father suddenly reappears, the reunited duo travels to a secret panda paradise to meet scores of hilarious new panda characters. But when the supernatural villain Kai begins to sweep across China defeating all the kung fu masters, Po must do the impossible-learn to train a village full of his fun-loving, clumsy brethren to become the ultimate band of Kung Fu Pandas. Family Movie Nights usually occur on the last Tuesday of the month. We show the film at 4 pm and again at 6:30 pm. The films are always rated G or PG. The programs are free of charge. Members of the Teen Advisory Board will be selling treats to benefit library programs.

The Teen Advisory Board meets each month, one hour before Teen Movie Night, from 5:00 – 6:00 to discuss anything and everything pertaining to the library. Come tell Ms. Jennifer what books, CDs, DVDs, and video games that you want the library to buy. Help plan programs and choose upcoming movie night movies. Prospective TAB members are always welcome to attend. Ages 11-17 are welcome.
