The open house is from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, at Colerain Middle School, 4700 Poole Road. The open house will be an opportunity to see the plans from Kleiningers & Associates Inc. which show different configurations of sidewalks on Poole Road from the Colerain Middle School to the intersection of Poole and Cheviot roads. The sidewalks are part of a Safe Routes to Schools plan developed by a task force in 2008 that included officials from Colerain Township and the Northwest Local School District, as well as parents and residents from the area around Colerain elementary and middle schools. Safe Routes to School is an Ohio Department of Transportation program started in 2006 with a goal of making it easier and safer for students to get to school. It uses federal funds to give grants to communities to make the necessary improvements. A non-refundable $25 dollar registration fee, payable in cash or check, is due at the time of sign-up.
