Colerain Township Seeks Demolition Orders In Effort to Take Back Community Following Murder at 2911 Jonrose Avenue, Township Takes Stand Against Crime and Blight
Colerain Twp, Ohio – In an effort to fight crime and improve living conditions, the Colerain Township trustees will hold a Public Hearing on the demolition of 14 properties throughout the Township. Included in the 14 is 2919 Jonrose Ave., a condemned building next door to 2911 Jonrose Ave. where a man was murdered on Saturday, March 9th. The two buildings are tied together by the same owner.
“Crime in that neighborhood is tied to drug activity and the drug activity is taking place in these condemned buildings. When you get rid of the buildings, you get rid of the havens for buying, selling and doing drugs and you get rid of the crime. We are committed to making a change in this neighborhood”, said Police Chief Daniel Meloy.
“No one deserves to live in such conditions. We hold ourselves, our neighborhoods and the landlords in our community to a higher standard than what we see in this small section of Jonrose Ave.” said Geoff Milz, Director of Building, Planning and Zoning.
“Neighborhoods are the building blocks of our Township. We are going to transform this neighborhood which is home to an elementary school and many people who care deeply about their community and are tired of watching it being taken over by absentee landlords and criminals.” , said Township administrator Jim Rowan.
