DESCRIPTION:Safe Route to Schools Task Force is having an open house to share three possible plans and get community feedback.\n\nThe open house is from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, at Colerain Middle School, 4700 Poole Road.\n\nThe open house will be an opportunity to see the plans from Kleiningers & Associates Inc. which show different configurations of sidewalks on Poole Road from the Colerain Middle School to the intersection of Poole and Cheviot roads.\n\nThe sidewalks are part of a Safe Routes to Schools plan developed by a task force in 2008 that included officials from Colerain Township and the Northwest Local School District, as well as parents and residents from the area around Colerain elementary and middle schools.\n\nSafe Routes to School is an Ohio Department of Transportation program started in 2006 with a goal of making it easier and safer for students to get to school. It uses federal funds to give grants to communities to make the necessary improvements.\n\nColerain is set to receive more than $268,000 in Safe Routes to School grant money to build sidewalks.
