Ask the Village

Today is Tuesday, June 9, 2026.

I have been receiving mailings from energy suppliers asking me to sign up with their company. Are these related to the Village’s electric purchasing program?

These companies are approaching you as an individual; they are not the Village’s program. Earlier this year, Village Council enacted an “opt-in” program for electric purchasing in which nearly 500 residents participated. The "opt-in" program ended with the December meter reading. Participants may automatically return to Duke Energy for a period of time until the new energy aggregation programs can be implemented. Signing up with a provider as an individual would switch you to a supplier not selected by the Village and may involve a fee to switch to the opt-out programs later. Since November, when the voters approved the electric and natural gas aggregation opt-out programs, the Village has moved into the implementation phase. This process takes several months. Public hearings on both programs were held on December 21. The next step in the process is to become a governmental aggregator certified by the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO). Once the Village is a certified governmental aggregator, the process of supplier selection can begin. After the Village has selected the suppliers that will offer savings to our residents, each resident will be notified by the selected suppliers. Residents will be provided a twenty-one (21) day window to opt-out of the programs. Updates will continue to be released as this process continues. For additional questions, you may contact our energy consultant, Eagle Energy at 251-7283 or the Village office at 531-8675.
